Years 1 & 2

Welcome to Key Stage 1!

In Key Stage 1, we have three mixed-aged classes of Year 1 and Year 2 children. Cherry Class is situated in the main school building, while Beech and Elm are based out in the mobile. All three classes are joined together by our large outdoor area.

In all three classes, we work hard everyday to challenge ourselves and become independent learners. We will update this page every Friday with information about what we have been up to, photos of our learning in action and an e-copy of the week's homework.

We hope you enjoy looking around!

Important information:

  • If you need to contact your child's class teacher and are unable to catch us on the playground, please email us at:

        beechclass@manea.cambs.sch.uk (Mrs Meager)

        cherryclass@manea.cambs.sch.uk (Miss Denton)

elmclass@manea.cambs.sch.uk (Mrs Biggs and Mrs Johnson)

  • We aim to reply as soon as we can but will always reply within 72 hours.
  • Beech, Elm and Cherry P.E day is Wednesday.
  • Please ensure children come to school in their PE kits on these days.
  • Homework is set on a Friday and will include a Literacy and Maths activity. We set three different levels of challenge for each subject, so you can help your child to choose the one which is appropriate for them. The children will bring their homework home in their homework books, and it is due in the following Wednesday.
  • The children will have their home reading book changed once a week, on their allocated reading day. If you are unsure of which day this is, please ask your child's class teacher. We recommend that your child reads their book a few times over the course of the week, dependent on its length, to build up their reading fluency and ability to sight read key words.

It has been a super exciting and busy week in year 1 and 2.

We have introduced our challenge lanyards to showcase all of the things we have investigated during our busy learning. Once we have created and investigated something new we write our captions (we even add adjectives to make our writing really interesting to read) and then we can tick off our challenge to show that it is complete and that we have aimed high with our learning.

In our literacy work we have been looking at using adjectives to describe different things, in our maths we have been learning about place value and in our foundation we have been thinking about working together, things that we are good at, how we can cooperate with others and the skills we need to work as part of a team.

You will have all taken your homework books home with you today, so make sure you aim high with your homework challenge, and don’t forget to bring your completed homework book back to school by Wednesday.  A copy of the homework can be found below.
